Luther: Never Too Much, the documentary chronicling the life of singer and Luther Vandross, will premiered on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on Friday, February 7 at 9 pm.
This critically acclaimed film, named after one of his famous songs, chronicles many aspects of the life of the late entertainer Luther Vandross. It chronicles Vandross' personal life, showcasing his rise to fame through performance footage, testimonials and interviews with the late performer.
Starting with his early days in Harlem, on to becoming the crooning, iconic singer known worldwide as well as becoming crowned the “king of the love songs”.
The captivating story of Luther Vandross, from his early Sesame Street appearances to becoming the indisputable master of the love song. Using rare archives, Vandross shares his own story with insights from his closest collaborators.
Directed by Dawn Porter, who also serves as an executive producer, the film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2024 and received positive critical reception.
Using a wealth of rarely seen archives, Vandross tells his own story along with the voices of his closest friends and musical collaborators including Mariah Carey, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson and Roberta Flack. The film unpacks the nuances and ironies of Vandross’ storied career, exploring his personal life, health struggles, and a lifelong desire to be respected and understood.

Playing in select theaters and originally airing on TV/streaming New Years Day 2025 on CNN, Luther: Never Too Much premiered on OWN February 7, 2025. It is also streaming on Hulu.
