"American Primeval" on Netflix is a gripping tale showcasing the harsh reality and history during the development of the American Western frontier.
Netflix’s latest mini series American Primeval lands on Netflix January 9, 2025. This gritty series follows a mother and son traveling out west at a time when it’s development and plan for a civilized society were just begging to start. In this series set across Utah in 1857, civilized forts, railroad lines, large settlements, just laws, and American colonization as a whole was still miniscule and in the very early stages of development. American settlers, bandits, Indians, and Mormons all clashed and staked their claim in the land. IN the 1850’s many settlers schemed and brutally killed in order to promote their own ideals and visions for what should or could be done with the land out West giving way to America’s vast history of bloodshed and violence.
As the series unfolds, this traveling pair soon realizes that the harsh, uncivilized, and cruel circumstances that they might face on this journey is more than they could afford to pay or handle by themselves.
Viewers will find that American Primeval is authentic and honest in its depiction of the violent and cruel nature of mankind during the establishing of the Western Frontier in 1850’s America. The series captures the harsh way of life that many settlers and Natives alike endured throughout American history. Colonization divided the land, drove the Natives out, caused division within communities, and ultimately led to various futile and large scale wars where an immense and senseless amount of lives were lost. The realism and commitment to truth in the storytelling by the writers and creatives in American Primeval is evident. The creatives did a stellar job capturing the essence and cruelty of 1857.
The gripping cinematography and action scenes in American Primeval are both remarkable and thrilling to watch. Although grimey and even gore filled at times, the depiction of how much bloodshed and murder plagued the land allows audiences to emotionally connect with the characters and violent history of American civilization. The wardrobe, props, set design, and Indian historical research crew all brought their A game to this series! Audiences will feel like they are back in time and become immersed in the action and battle scenes in American Primeval.

American Primeval also does well when portraying real life historical events involving the Unites States Military forces, other settlers, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the Ute, Shoshone, and Southern Paiute tribes.
