Black Mirror season 7 launched today on April 10th 2025 on Netflix. Charlie Brooker's dark, satirical anthology series has returned with six brand new episodes, including a sequel to the sci-fi adventure “USS Callister”.
Audiences will love that Season 7 remains as psychologically thrilling, darkly humorous, and bizarre as previous seasons. However, there is a more direct or central theme throughout all 6 of the mind bending episodes. This new season is highly focused on what happens when humans exploit the use of technology for various reasons and how that can end up hurting or even killing those they love, regardless of the intention or emotional state driving the exploitation.
Boasting an A list ensemble, these heavy hitters really brought their 5 star caliber acting to the screen. Notable season standouts are Siena Kelly, Issa Rae, Chris O’Dowd, Cristin Milioti, Peter Capaldi, Awkwafina, Tracee Ellis Ross, Will Poulter, and many more.
Dramatic, romantic, at times scary, and sci fi or action packed, these multi-genre and diverse episodes are thoroughly entertaining mini stories. By incorporating a central theme involving the dark side of technology, these episodes easily engage and connect viewers to these relatable yet bizarre and gripping storylines.
When asked by NPR, What do you think is the biggest danger in people's relationship with technology? Is it our dependence on it or maybe our eventual replacement by it?
Series creator Charlie Brooker said, “I think almost everyone with any kind of job, can look at ChatGPT and that world and get quite worried that you could end up being replaced. And I think that obviously would be a massive shame.
I like to think that as creatures, we want human connections.
I can also see the value of AI as a tool, as it's a tool being operated and overseen by people. And I think the danger is, obviously, if people get written out of the equation somehow, either emotionally, physically, financially, then we're in real trouble.
He then goes on to state, “I suppose really in almost all of our episodes, the problems come in when a human is misusing something or they're not thinking through the consequences of what they're doing or they're driven by fear or they're driven by jealousy or weakness or something. That's usually the problem, whereas the technology itself is a neutral tool”.
