Rejoice soap fans! Beyond The Gates, the groundbreaking new series in its first season has been renewed! The soap series is part of CBS Network’s Daytime lineup along with the long-running, classic soaps The Young & The Restless and The Bold And The Beautiful.
Beyond the Gates premiered on CBS, February 24th and has since become a ratings hit in daytime television. Beyond the Gates is the first soap opera to feature a predominantly black cast in over 25 years. This historical drama has resonated with fans, building a strong fanbase and social media presence with fanpages, increasing the buzz and taking to online forums daily to “live” in groups online.
In a landscape where daytime soap operas have dwindled to just a handful of long-standing shows, Beyond the Gates has emerged not only as a bold newcomer, but a cultural game changer. The series has already achieved what many thought impossible: reinvigorating the soap opera genre with modern relevance, fresh storytelling, and groundbreaking representation.
The writing, set design, hair and makeup and of course the acting all contribute to what has been a stellar success. The cast which includes Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnee Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad and Arielle Prepetit are very active and engaging on social media with fans.
The show’s creator, Michele Val Jean, is no stranger to soap opera success. A Daytime Emmy Award-winning writer with credits on General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, Val Jean brings an understanding of the genre's rhythm. She’s joined by executive producer Sheila Ducksworth, president of the CBS/NAACP venture.
So much drama has gone down in the exclusive gated community of Fairmont Crest where the Dupree family reigns supreme since the premiere. Specifically with Daphnee’s character Nicole, fans have learned that her husband Ted has been unfaithful years ago and fathered a child he thought his mistress did not keep.
His mistress has also inserted herself into Nicole’s life pretending to be a woman in crisis so Nicole can treat as well as her and Ted daughter’s Eva is now Nicole’s new personal assistant. Classic soap drama that has fans hooked and tuning in daily for more.
Its success is not just a win for CBS or soap fans but it’s a triumph for representation and creative risk-taking. And with its 100th episode already taped, plus this fresh renewal news, Beyond the Gates has proven that there's still plenty of appetite for the genre.
