Darkly humorous Peacock drama “Laid” gets right down to business.
All eight half-hour episodes of Laid premiered Thursday, December 19th on Peacock. The sinister romcom series follows 30-something year old Ruby (played by Stephanie Hsu) who finds out her former lovers are each dying off in unusual ways. She must go back through her sex timeline to confront her past in order to move forward – LAID is a f**cked up rom-com where the answer to “Why can’t I find love, is there something wrong with me?” Is a resounding “Yes. There is. The problem is definitely you.”
Morbid and comedic, this series is also fun, edgy, sexual, and entertaining.
The series stars:
Stephanie Hsu as Ruby Yao, a 33-year-old single Seattle-based party planner who is trying to solve why her sex partners are dying in the order she slept with
Zosia Mamet as AJ, Ruby's best friend and roommate
Michael Angarano as Richie, one of the people whom Ruby slept with who doesn't die and is described as a "sex loophole"
Tommy Martinez as Isaac, a client who hires Ruby to plan his parents' 40th anniversary party whom Ruby shares a connection with
Hsu is charismatic and snarky in her portrayal of Ruby. As the story unfolds, the mystery surrounding the deaths of her exes provides an exhilarating, funny, and raunchy storyline as she recounts and reminisces on her past tryst and relationships.
The series is definitely filled with clever twists and witty dialogue as audiences watch Ruby get to the bottom of what’s really going on with her former beaus before it’s too late for them all.
