The Prime Video series My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her scoundrel of a husband Guildford. At the center of this swashbuckling new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane (played by Emily Bader), who is shocked to be crowned queen and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head). My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure. The series is adapted by Gemma Burgess from a series of novels written by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows.
This quirky, bizarre, funny, and outlandish love story is filled with youthful adventure, wonder, and calamity as the story is retold with a modern day twist on family dynamics, domestication, and gender roles. From the opening sequence the crass and profane nature in which ladies from this period set in the 16th century began to speak, let’s the audience know that this isn’t your typical fair maiden or damsel in distress period drama. This series is mixed with comedy and drama along with a plethora of proactive undertones which make this royal drama series stand out. Viewers are treated with several moments that bewilder as the retelling of past historical facts turn and twist throughout the entire season. Viewers are continuously fraught with uncertainty as to where this wild adventure will go as the series progresses toward the finale. Several characters display great on screen chemistry that keeps the audience engaged with the plot and storyline.
The series stars:
Jordan Peters as King Edward VI
