Uglies is an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by McG and written by Jacob Forman, Vanessa Taylor, and Whit Anderson. The film stars Joey King in the lead role. Based on the novel Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, the plot centers around a future post-apocalyptic dystopian society.
Based on the best-selling 2005 YA sci-fi novel of the same name, UGLIES is set to debut on September 13, 2024 on Netflix. In a futuristic world that imposes a cosmetic surgery at 16, Tally is eager to join the rest of society. But when a friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that upends everything she thought she wanted.
This film is moving, thrilling, emotional and even beautiful as this futuristic society with captivating scenery is displayed on screen.
300 years into the future in this post-apocalyptic dystopian society, teenagers undergo government-mandated cosmetic surgery to turn them into “Pretties” when they reach their sixteenth birthday. Becoming a “Pretty” allows them to move to New Pretty Town and enjoy a higher esteemed and more formidable lifestyle than before they were “Pretty”.
Audiences get to feel and experience the angst, insecurity, and emotional journey that these characters take as they grow, learn to accept, and love who they are regardless of society’s standards.
