Hit Series Dutton Ranch Uses Masterfully Crafted, Intriguing, & Complex Characters As A Guide For Success on Paramount+.
We join newcomers Marc Menchaca and Juan Pablo Raba to discuss the show.
A little over 12 million people streamed the first 2 episodes of the Yellowstone Universe spinoff titled Dutton Ranch on Paramount+ over the course of seven days after its debut on May 15, 2026 (Per Deadline).
Rich dialogue with action and cowboying set amongst the vibrant, textured atmosphere in South Texas has captivated audiences and introduced them to a new host of characters. The highly anticipated series has also provided a fresh perspective for the beloved Yellowstone characters who are now on Dutton Ranch while also having some new faces emerge that have engaged and intrigued viewers early in the season.
Dutton Ranch follows Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton as they risk everything to start anew in Rio Paloma, Texas leaving behind their troubled past linked to Yellowstone. Their hope to build a peaceful future is soon challenged by a formidable rival ranch determined to defend its territory at all costs. The narrative explores themes of ambition, loyalty, conflict, and the relentless fight for power within the ranching world.
New characters whom are both friends and foes have enhanced the storytelling for this now hit series on Paramount+. The presence of a hostile rival family (The Jackson Family) who owns the well known 10 Petal Ranch has escalated the tension and conflict which is central to the plot’s progression.
Dutton Ranch season 1, episode 4 became available to stream on May 29, 2026. In this absolutely heartbreaking and exhilarating episode titled, “Start with a Bullet,” Rip (Cole Hauser), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and the Dutton ranch cowboys Azul (J.R. Villareal) and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) were forced to deal with the foot and mouth disease crisis that’s spread among their cattle. Leaving Beth and Rip in an uncomfortable and unpredictable position that puts their family, ranch, and their new start in jeopardy.
Beth and Rip have attempted to escape the shadowy Yellowstone history, however how they’ve handled past conflicts and events are seeming resurfacing in their present life and current decisions. Dutton Ranch implicitly explores the tension between past and future, where characters must reconcile their histories to survive and thrive. After an edge of your seat introduction to Rips new cowboy Zachariah after his 15 year prison release, a great example of how unresolved emotional trauma and past issues can upend everything was front in center when he was accosted at gunpoint on the ranch for a past grievance.

Scenes In Color sat down with newcomers to the fold, Marc Menchaca who plays the rugged, newly found religious cowboy Zachariah and Juan Pablo Raba who plays Joaquin—The Jackson quiet "fixer” for the Jackson Family. Like Jamie Dutton, he’s an adopted son that is polished and professional. He has a calm, diplomatic disposition and manages the liabilities, finances, dicey situation, marketing and more for his family.

With new drama from The Jackson Family and their 10-Petal Ranch brand no longer just looming on the horizon, plus the added drama with the health of their heard along with the mounting issues brewing with their son Carter (Finn Little), Beth and Rip are facing challenges like never before. However, the heart of the show lies in their continued ability to develop and stand together through the most unexpected and tough emotional moments. Audiences have enjoyed watching Beth and Rips love for each other anchor them as a united front against external threats through a bond that strong, loyal, and powerful.
Although the promise of renewal clashes sharply with the impenetrable defenses of a rival ranch and other emerging obstacles, power, the tenacious cowboy lifestyle, and loyalty remain central to the show— creating an increasingly interesting and entertaining story.
