An all new rom-com is hitting Hulu on today. The series titled Not Suitable For Work centers on five work-obsessed 20-somethings navigating corporate ambition, messy relationships, and personal lives in Manhattan's Murray Hill neighborhood.
The first three episodes dropped on June 2, 2026, with two new episodes releasing weekly on Tuesdays on Hulu. This comedy from Mindy Kaling centers on the following characters:
AJ (Ella Hunt), a first-year analyst living with her college friend Abhinaya AKA Abby (Avantika) after her boyfriend leaves. J secretly loves Kel (Nicholas Duvernay), a medical student pressured by his immigrant parents to pursue medicine although his first love is acting. Hopeless romantic Davis (Will Angus), who falls for his new colleague, and Josh (Jack Martin), a privileged social warrior aiming to be an investigative journalist at his father's firm. Josh is attracted to intern Elena (Emilia Suarez) but struggles to show his true self, unaware they've previously had a one-night stand and that he ghosted her. Actor Jay Ellis plays AJ’s boss named Bill Gibson.
While these characters have interesting backstories and host of current, drama filled predicaments to face, they lack a bit of glamour and relatability. These characters are more liken to 1990’s sitcom characters than young adults who are their age in this current era. Not Suitable For Work has the right formula and recipe, but the measurements are a tad off. While the premise is solid, the series lacks execution in regard to character personalities and arc.
It’ll be interesting to see how the masses respond to this series. It has a solid comedic tone and funny dialogue. Set in NY where possibilities are endless for ambitious young adults—this story can indeed entertain and keep audiences engaged enough as the season unfolds in a weekly format.
Victor Garber, Greg Germann, Judy Gold, Ego Nwodim, Laura Bell Bundy, May Hong, Bhavesh Patel, Emilia Suárez and Michael Benjamin Washington are recurring guest stars.
