IF movie debuted this weekend (May 17, 2024) with a box office opening of 35 million over the weekend. IF is a family orientated movie that blends live action and animation on the big screen. The movies stars teenage actress Cailey Fleming, along side Hollywood veterans Ryan Reynolds and John Krasinski who serves as writer, actor, and director for the film.
IF is about a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and begins to see everyone's imaginary friends (IFs) who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up and forgotten them. (IMDB)
Personally, we here at Scenes of Color enjoyed IF. The odd, creative, and funny imaginary characters with their unique and distinct personalities made for many comedic moments. We gave the writing and overall storyline a 4/5. There were a few slow moments for the toddler age crowd, however, the acting from Cailey Fleming who plays the main character Bea, as well as the constant vibrant and engaging music and animation really made this movie shine.
For adults viewers, IF movie found a way to keep you engaged, emotionally connected to the main character and it also served as a reminder that you were once a child filled with your own youthful imagination. There are emotionally driven scenes about family, imagination, youthful creativity, grief and how people of all ages find ways to cope with many of life’s unexpected challenges.
Tots, tweens, teens, and adults can all connect and engage throughout IF. The movie finds a way to bridge the gap between the imagination of childhood, the coming of age and often confusing pre teen stage, on to the creative and ambitious era of your 20’s-30’s, and right on into the often emotionally heavy and realistic mindset that comes with adulthood. The stage of life known as “Seniors” were not forgotten in this funny, family oriented, and nostalgic film. That alone serves as a reminder that IF is truly an all inclusive family film and a beautiful reminder that your youthful splendor always resides inside of us throughout every facet of life.
If you don’t take our word for it, you should definitely check out IF for yourself. Other notable casts are Fiona Shaw and Liza Colón-Zayas, along with the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., and Steve Carell.
