Ironheart, the Disney+ series starring Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams debuted on June 24th. The show's first three episodes released simultaneously at 9 PM ET.
The series follows the young genius Riri Williams as she returns to Chicago after a difficult time at MIT. She explores her unique approach to building her own Iron Man-like suit while also trying to navigate the ins and out of life with limited finances. Thorne portrays the brilliant, ambitious, and young inventor RiRi remarkably well in what is her biggest acting role to date. The series also introduces “The Hood”, played by Anthony Ramos, who initially appears to help Riri but has ulterior motives and a hidden agenda.
The spunky young female inventor Riri Williams is a disciple of Tony Stark who is mastering the design of her own iron suit. Now back in her Chicago hometown after getting booted from MIT, Riri takes center stage in her own spinoff, so desperate for funding to realize her vision that she falls in with a criminal gang led by cocky Parker “The Hood” Robbins. His mysterious cloak has powers of its own, stemming from a Faustian bargain for power and riches. Another highlight of the series that merges sci-fi and comedy comes from RiRi’s AI sidekick, N.A.T.A.L.I.E., played by the talented Lyric Ross.
The series premiered 3 stellar episodes on yesterday. With brilliant cinematography and a riveting and action packed storyline, this series is refreshing, diverse, and filled with sci fi fun.
Riri was originally introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a brilliant MIT student. Ironheart centers on her as she navigates coming of age, advancements in technology, her creativity, science and community issues all while facing “The Hood”. The series is executive produced by Ryan Coogler, who also directed Wakanda Forever.
The final three episodes of the 6 episode first season will be available next Tuesday on Disney+.
