Nat Geo takes us to the key source of life with EXPEDITION AMAZON!
Nat Geo documentary special, EXPEDITION AMAZON premiered October 10 and is now available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu as of October 11, 2024.
The Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition is a multi year series of solutions-centered science and storytelling expeditions spanning the entire Amazon River Basin, from the Andes to the Atlantic. With a unique focus on the freshwater ecosystem and its flood pulse, multidisciplinary teams led by a cohort of Explorers are conducting groundbreaking transboundary research and collaborating with local scientists, communities and policy makers to develop innovative, community-driven scalable solutions to ensure the protection, restoration, revival and survival of this vital ecosystem.
This series is not only informative, but also extremely engaging and captivating. The level of commitment, time spent, and extremes that these cinematographers, scientist, and the entire production crew went through to capture these extremely vital parts of earth and nature is nothing short of award worthy.
This special provides an in-depth look at the Amazon’s vast environment. From the mighty Amazon’s icy source to its freshwater plume reaching as far as the Caribbean, National Geographic Explorers conduct groundbreaking research to take the pulse of one of the planet’s endlessly magical resources. From unique mangrove forests to the health of pink river dolphins and the migration of Andean bears, extreme urgency is met by equally hopeful solutions.
Having and maintaining a sustainable Amazon ecosystem is crucial to the survival for many animals and human beings. The most vital and key resource for survival is water. From its “flying rivers” to its flowing streams and flooded forests, water is the life-blood that sustains the Amazon ecosystem and the 40 million people who depend on it. The Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition follows the flowpath of the Amazon waterways, with in-depth Explorer-led scientific research taking place across the entire basin, six countries and 4,000 miles.
This series does well using data and scientific facts to help connect the dots for viewers. The vast area of land covered during this docuseries is all interconnected through water which is key to nature and those who inhabit these areas in order to survive.
The detailed view and advanced use of technology to display how the water is transported through certain weather occurrences, through nature, and through pathways is captivating and vastly immersive.
The important research and documentation of these areas has been in the works for a few years now. The seven teams of Explorers and multidisciplinary scientists who form the Rolex and National Geographic Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition have been travelling deep into the Amazon since 2022 in order to study, analyze, view, report, and capture this resilient and ever changing area of our planet.
