Here’s what creators Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans had to say about this exciting and electrifying animated film.
“Growing up watching movies set in other Asian cultures, I really wanted to see the Korean culture represented in an animated movie. So, I began on a journey to create a film that spoke to me and the world, while showcasing the many beautiful aspects about my heritage. The first thing that came to mind was Korea's rich mythology, and specifically, the supernatural world around demonology which is so different from anything we've seen in mainstream media. The thought of demons led to the idea of demon hunters – a group of amazing women warriors who fight an evil force and protect the world from it in secret. Luckily, this served as an opportunity to show a different kind of female superhero – ones that are not just cool and badass, but also flawed and imperfect, who are silly, who love food and eat too much – the type of women that I've always wanted to see on screen”. -Kang
“Maggie and I started on this film during the pandemic, when the world was locked down & human connection was hard to find. TS started streaming virtual concerts online and suddenly millions of people around the world were singing and dancing to Dynamite in their living rooms (including us). For a moment, the world felt less dark. We set out to make a film that delivered all the fun and fashion and high-stakes action that a title like KPop Demon Hunters promises – but we also wanted to capture that feeling, when a great song has us all under its spell, and all of our differences, all the darkness in the world; even our own inner demons for a moment feel less daunting”. -Appelhans
KPop Demons Hunters delivers fun, great music, and a thrilling storyline with an explosion of Korean culture that anyone can enjoy and connect with while watching the film.
KPop Demons Hunters debuted June 20, 2025 and is streaming right now on Netflix!
