Psychological & emotional. “Long Bright River” is a beautifully poignant series on Peacock.
Mickey Fitzpatrick (played by Amanda Seyfried) is a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hard-hit by the opioid crisis. A child of the area herself, Mickey's need to help is personal. Mysterious unsolved murders start happening in her territory and she starts to feel like her connection to these murders might be personal. Through bravery, empathy, and a strong moral compass, Mickey illustrates how important it is that those in law enforcement, everyday society, and leadership roles keep those in underserved communities treated just as equally and fairly as any other citizen.
For far too long and far too often, people who are considered “lower” class are discarded by society and they fail to receive proper justice or the deserved amount of attention when crimes are committed against them. Long Bright River reminds viewers that the life of each person should be regarded with high priority regardless of their socioeconomic status.
This series introduces audiences to Officer Mickey Fitzpatrick, a single mother who seems devoted to helping and policing those in the most heinous and decrepit areas of Philadelphia where crime, drugs, homelessness, and prostitution run wild, plaguing the city streets. As the story unfolds, viewers realize that Officer Fitzpatrick’s devotion to the people on these streets is more than professional, she has a personal connection to those who live and frequent these gritty city areas.
Each episodes pulls viewers in through it’s poignant and harsh depiction of reality for what life is like for so many living in these run down and impoverished areas in America. Seyfried embodies and remarkably portrays the character Office Mickey Fitzpatrick.
