Season 2 of "61st street" starring Courtney B. Vance holds court tonight on the CW!
61st Street tells the story of Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising Black high school athlete who is swept up into the infamously corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. Taken by the police as a supposed gang member, he finds himself in the eye of the storm as cops and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong.
In comes attorney Franklin Roberts (played by Courtney B. Vance), who has promised his wife (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) that he will retire as a public defender. However, he decides to take on Johnson's case because he recognizes its potential to upend the entire Chicago judicial system, challenging the institutional racism and endemic corruption at its heart.
From AMC Studios, 61st Street is a shot back-to-back 2 season series that is executively produced by Peter Moffat, J. David Shanks, Michael B. Jordan and Outlier Society. After a 1 season cancellation on AMC, the series was picked up by the CW for season 1 and 2 as terms of a partnership agreement.
Season 2 of 61st street premieres tonight on the CW at 8 pm central.
This storyline is riveting, eye-opening, and thought provoking. It serves to raise awareness to biases and unjust treatment that many people of color face throughout the justice system. It also serves as a reminder that while the criminal justice system is the law of the land, it does not mean that it is without flaw. 61st street exposes these flaws as well as the fair share of prejudice that stem from within through members of public service and government officials.
Determined to shine a light on some of the dark and hidden injustices that plague the inner city streets of Chicago and the unfair justice system processes for black people, Franklin Roberts embarks on an inspiring and moving journey to affect real change within the system.
