The stars of the Emmy winning series were greeted to cheers and roars in a ballroom filled with fans as they arrived on stage. Creator and actress Quinta Brunson (who plays character Janine Teagues) was on hand to give insight into the creative process that goes into making Abbott Elementary.
Brunson expressed that coming to Comic-Con as a fan had been a dream of hers since she was 9 years old. Now, attending Comic-Con as both a fan and invited panelist has allowed the actress to feel a great sense of gratitude. Brunson told the packed ballroom that she also got a chance to watch a panel at Comic-Con over the weekend. Although sitting in the crowd dressed in rather incognito attire, Brunson was now able to experience both sides of the event.
“Getting to be a sitcom at Comic-Con ‘Abbott’ was almost a cartoon and it wound up being live-action, but we didn’t lose our cartoon roots. It’s just special to be here.” -Quinta Brunson
The rest of Abbott Elementary’s staff which includes Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, and William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson were also on hand to discuss season 4 and look back at their character and personal journeys from season 1 up until now. “The last three years have been kind of a blur for me, and I’ve had to learn how to take moments and in put my feet on the ground and look around,” stated Brunson. “I finally bought a house!”, Lisa Ann Walter exclaimed as cast mates and fans alike clapped and looked on with glee.
Executive producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Randall Einhorn, and Brian Rubenstein were also there to take fans back to school with behind-the-scenes conversation about the award-winning ABC comedy.
At the panel, it was announced that season 4 would have a whopping 22-episode season. The writing crew seems to already be hard at work. Executive producer Patrick Schumacker said that about 6 of the 22 episodes have already been penned. Brunson chimed in, “And they are good! I’m not kidding, if they weren’t…I would tell you”.
Season 4 of Abbott Elementary will follow the epic season 3 finale episode titled “Party”, that premiered on May 22, 2024. Janine (Quinta Brunson) threw an end of the year bash that led to her sharing intimate and sweet moments with Gregory (played by Tyler James Williams).
Many fans have long anticipated this moment between Gregory & Janine. At the panel, the cast and creatives discussed the time, collaboration, and creative process that was involved in making this moment come together and have “the right feel” for viewers. It’ll be interesting to see where the future will lead this duo. Fans will be able to find out when season 4 of Abbott Elementary premieres on October 9, 2024!
Not only did Abbott Elementary hold a panel for a packed house, but Abbott Elementary also brought the fun outdoors with A.V.A Fest, hosting an entire 4-day carnival right behind the San Diego Convention Center for fans with rides, treats, games, music and more!
Attendees were treated to a variety of attractions inspired by characters and events from throughout the series.
Barbara’s “Blessed and Pressed” custom bag and hat station allowed attendees to choose custom patches and have them pressed/ironed on right on the spot. A large slide with a ball pit, stilt walkers, character themed carnival cards, and groovy live music provided by the Philadelphia Eagles Drumline who performed every hour added more excitement to this fun experience.
Star Quinta Brunson also teased that there will be a crossover episode in Season 4. However, the who, what, where, when, and how remain a mystery.
