“The Platform 2” hits a new level in Netflix debut.
The Platform 2 debuted October 4, 2024 on Netflix in the US. The Platform, was one of the most-watched non-English Netflix films of all time. This film took horror and sci fi lovers alike on a disturbing dystopian odyssey through a cruel and brutal prison extending over 200 stories underground in this dark saga.
Set in a large, tower-style "Vertical Self-Management Center" or what is considered a prison style lock up. Its residents, who are transferred in through for various crimes or wants must every month switch between its many floors, are fed via a platform which, initially filled with food at the top floor, gradually descends through the tower's levels, stopping for a fixed amount of time on each. This is a cruel system which inevitably leads to conflict, as the residents at the top levels get to eat as much as they can, with each level only getting the leftovers from the previous ones.
In The Platform 2, a mysterious leader imposes their rule in the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in the battle against this controversial method to fight the brutal feeding system. But when eating from the wrong plate becomes a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?
Filled with chaos, terror, and twist, The Platform 2 brings a harrowing tale to life on screen.
Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian star in The Platform 2.
As the war between the main factions in the facility rages on, the film does well to keep audiences engaged and emotionally invested. The underlying plot devices of loyalty, sacrifice, and redemption makes this film connect to viewers as they watch the characters face harsh and inhuman circumstances, but continue to push forward and risk it all in the name of survival.
