The Serpent Queen season 2 debuts on Starz!
The Serpent Queen features two-time Academy Award® Nominee Samantha Morton who returns as the nefarious Queen Mother Catherine de Medici. Season 2, episode 1 of this wicked and calculative period drama debuted on Friday July 12, 2024, at midnight on the Starz.
The Serpent Queen chronicles the story of Catherine de Medici who against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history.
In season two, Catherine de Medici is Queen Regent of France now that her son, Charles IX has come of age. Distracted by the personal conflicts of the Valois children, a new mysterious prophet named Edith gains a loyal following who vow to challenge the current religious establishment, sparking tension across the country. Feeling threatened by the rising strain, the divided court turn to their own schemes for selfish benefit. The Guises commit unholy acts while the Bourbons turn to a familiar foreign sovereign, Queen Elizabeth I of England in hopes of personal gain. As France falls into political and religious turmoil, Catherine struggles to maintain her power, but “The Serpent Queen” will do whatever she needs to regain control.
Throughout the season, high stakes scandals take center court in this Starz Original series. Betrayal, satire, and political schemes are all a part of this period drama.
The Serpent Queen is based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda and is from writer and executive producer Justin Haythe.




The series stars Amrita Acharia, Enzo Cilenti, Barry Atsma, Nicholas Burns and Danny Kirrane, Ray Panthaki, and Charles Dance, Ludivine Sagnier, Liv Hill, Kiruna Stamell, and Colm Meaney in recurring roles.
New cast members for season two include Minnie Driver in the recurring role of Queen Elizabeth I, Emma McDonald as a recast Rahima, series regulars Angus Imrie, Stanley Morgan and Philippine Velge, and Bill Milner, Ashley Thomas, Rosalie Craig, Isobel Jesper Jones and Alexandre Willaume in recurring roles.
