The season 1 finale of Rescue: HI SURF crashes into FOX tonight at 9pm ET.
This 19 episode extended order season has had its fair share of thrills, however there hasn’t very much that’s made audiences adrenaline race! Each episode this season has borderlined on the edge, barely delving into the personal lives of characters.
With a beautiful setting, attractive cast, and killer seas raging wild, the story just hasn’t captured the essence of the setting in a way that allows the series to feel immersive and exhilarating. The main characters development and personalities haven’t been explored enough in a way that makes them relatable outside of workplace duties. Budding romantic storylines and action have blended well to make this series enjoyable, however it hasn’t really peaked in terms of captivating thrills, intense emotions, or relatable character arcs.
In the finale episode, the Hawaii lifeguards work with the U.S. Coast Guard when two snorkelers go missing after being left behind in the middle of the ocean. The team celebrates Ocean’s (Ka’enaaloha Watson) graduation, and Em (Arielle Kebbel) gets a lucrative job offer.
While there hasn’t been any official season 2 renewal news, Fox ordered seven additional episodes of season 1 which made the total episode count reach 19. This may serve as a sign of their commitment to continuing the series for additional seasons. If so, the writers may want to “dive” in deeper regarding the personal lives and romantic aspects of this series. RESCUE: HI SURF season 1 seems to have treaded lightly in that area, leaving viewers with risky and thrilling seaside situations handled by characters that they haven’t connected with nor have they become emotionally invested in due to lack of storyline and consideration to character arc.
