Wild Cards stars Vanessa Morgan (“Riverdale”) and Giacomo Gianniotti (“Grey’s Anatomy”). Season 1 of this Canadian crime solving dramedy premiered in Canada on Jan 10, 2024 on CBC and in the US on Jan 17, 2024. According to Nielson, Wild Cards was the CW’s #1 new series in 2024 in total audience viewing. Last Month, Wild Cards was renewed by The CW for an extended 13 episode season 2.
Wild Cards is a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist that follows the unlikely duo of a by-the-book, sardonic cop Cole Ellis (Gianniotti), and a spirited, clever con woman Max Mitchell (Morgan). They are partnered together, and each uses their unique skills to solve crimes. For Ellis, that means hard-boiled shoe leather police work; for Max, it means accents, disguises, schemes and generally befriending everyone in sight, while driving Ellis absolutely nuts. Season 1’s cliffhanger found Ellis about to arrest Max for her heist of a 33 million dollar jewel, but his feelings of betrayal are sidelined by a bombshell revelation from Max; she’s learned the identity of his brother’s murderer. Season 2 raises the stakes for our duo both in terms of the cases they’re tasked to solve in each episode and their feelings for each other.
Wild Cards takes viewers on a fun, comedic, crime solving cat and mouse style journey each episode. Morgan and Gianniotti have great on screen chemistry that bodes well as their characters embark on various adventures to gather clues, seize suspects, and unravel mysterious crimes. The duo share witty banter, sarcastic sentiments, moments of vaguely emotional connections, and an certain level of mistrust throughout the entire series as the con artist and cop team up to catch the bad guys.
Wild Cards also stars:
Amy Goodmurphy as Detective Yates
Terry Chen as Chief Li, the leader of the Metro Police Force.
Karin Konoval as Commissioner Russo
