From Algebra to Abracadabra, we check in with Disney star Janice LeAnn Brown.
The finale of Wizards Beyond Waverly place debuts this Friday on Disney+!
Ahead of the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 1 finale, Scenes In Color sat down with Disney star and young on screen wizard, Janice LeAnn Brown to talk this season highlights and tease the finale.
In case you aren’t familiar with this magical series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is a sci-fi, comedy TV series spin-off that serves as a sequel to the classic hit Disney TV series Wizards of Waverly Place.
The 21-episode season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered on October 29, 2024 and will conclude on February 28, 2025. The upcoming 6 episode release will include the finale episode titled, “Nigh is Now!”.
The series continues to follow the now adult, father, and husband Justin Russo (David Henrie), as he takes a young wizard named Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) under his wing. However, Billie isnt just any wizard, according to Justin’s sister Alex (Selena Gomez), Billie is an extremely powerful young wizard that is in need of Justin’s training and mentorship. Although often mischievous and getting into trouble, over the past few episodes, audiences have enjoyed seeing Billie grow to respect and love the Russo’s since becoming fully settled and living in their home.
Scenes In Color asked the clever and talented Janice LeAnn Brown, “Early on in the season, every time Billie would make a mistake or do something mischievous, she would automatically assume she’d be kicked out. How has your characters views or feelings on family changed from earlier in the season up until now?”
Janice: It has changed drastically, mainly because she’s learning so much, not even just with family but with friendship as well with Winter. She’s learning so many valuable lessons. I think in the beginning she kind of already felt that family was super important, but since she never had one, she never knew how good that really felt….she had an idea of how good it could feel but she didn’t really know. I think that she’s definitely cherishing that and taking it to heart. I’m very proud of her because in almost every episode she’s doing A LOT that she knows she’s not supposed to do, but I’m very proud of her for taking that accountability. At the end of the day she’s making changes, apologizing, and not being too prideful about it!
This fun and exciting season of Wizards Beyond Waverly place will continue to have viewers chilled and thrilled as they head toward the finale! In this inaugural season, there have been multiple Disney OG Alumni grace the set, serving in roles both in front of and behind the camera. When asked, what was it like to work on set with some of the OG Disney stars like Raven Symone as a director as well as Selena Gomez who reprised her role as Alex Russo in the premiere?
Janice said, it was so surreal, especially because when I was little with my hot pink glasses, I would watch their shows on TV and it was very full circle for me…I truly believe that I’m privileged because they have so much wisdom! They’ve been in the game for so long and they’ve already done this before so I feel very blessed to get to ask them questions and put my full trust in them. Its a very safe environment, they are so kind and so funny. SO SO FUNNY on and off set. It’s truly been an honor to work with them!
