The highly anticipated season of “The Last Of Us” returned last week!

The Last of Us season 2 premiered last week April 13, 2025 on HBO/Max at 9 PM ET. This video game adaptation series has been met with mixed reviews. The overall general consensus amongst fans and critics has been positive.

Season 2 is set five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.

Episode one set the tone, showcasing not only the frigid atmosphere in the mountain community where they call home, but also the frigid and tumultuous relationship between Ellie and Joel. This episode showed how Ellie has adjusted, become a well-known part of the community, and also gained friends while continuing to sharpen and harness her combat and hunting skills.

Joel, the ever present parental figure in Ellie’s life is still hovering, struggling, but learning to do so from afar. He has reunited with his brother and his family, he has a nephew, and he’s in therapy. This shift in tone is setting up this season to be highly emotional, intense, and thrilling. Audiences will be on edge waiting for “the other shoe to drop” and some sort of dangerous event to unfold a burst the bubble on their organized and safe community.

Episode 2 airs tonight on HBO at 9 pm ET. In this next episode, Joel and Ellie must survive killers and monsters on a trek across America after an outbreak.
